Yalla Shoot :Pep Guardiola basks in ‘incredible result’ but wary Man City could ‘suffer’ in Munich

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted his side’s 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich was an “incredible result” but is wary that the second leg of the quarter-final could see them “suffer”.

City have hit mesmeric form of late. Their last Champions League game – the second leg of the round of 16 – saw them beat RB Leipzig 7-0. Since then, City have failed to score more than three goals just once – tonight.

However, that’s not to say the win over Bayern wasn’t a commanding one. City were as dominant as they have been all season, evidenced by the fact their opponents conceded more goals tonight than they had in the Champions League all campaign before it.

A number of Guardiola’s men covered themselves in glory during the match. Rodri opened the scoring with a belter, before Bernardo Silva doubled the lead in the second half, and Erling Haaland added a third not long after.

The Norwegian’s goal was his 45th in all competitions this term. That means he now holds the record as the Premier League player with most goals in all competitions in a single season ever.

There was a lot to celebrate from a City perspective. In his post-match press conference, Guardiola hailed not only his side, but the game as a whole, and his opponents.

“It really was a good Champions League game, and top teams. During 55, 60 minutes it was a tight game,” he told BBC Sport.

“We found an incredible goal from Rodri but we could not control the pockets, with Musiala and Gnabry. The first five, 10, 15 minutes of the second half they were better, they had chances.

“But after, we adjust something and in the last parts of the game we were better.”

While a 3-0 lead is a commanding one, the City boss doesn’t to get ahead of himself. Indeed, he’s aware Bayern will be strong at home, and his side will need to put in another top performances if they’re to guarantee progression to the semi-finals.

“It’s an incredible result, but I know what it means to go to Munich and we have to do something new to not suffer so much the quality they have and we will try and do it,” he added.
