Liverpool have completed deal for Wolves’ young star Harvey Owen, in a deal worth £800k for the 14-year-old. 

The centre-back is the latest addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side, having already completed deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined fee of of £95m.

A fee with Wolves for the defender was reportedly agreed with Liverpool in May, but the deal has now been confirmed. 

The £800k fee is higher than what would have been agreed by a tribunal, but the Reds were happy to pay the sizeable layout to beat off fierce competition in the wonderkid.  

Owen will join Liverpool’s youth set-up and he took to Instagram to share his delight on the move to Anfield.

The 14-year-old centre back has signed from Wolves and shared his delight on Instagram 

‘Very happy to sign for Liverpool, can’t wait to get started.’ The teenager posted. 

‘Thank you to everybody who has helped me to get where I am today and just wanna say big thank you to Wolves who have supported me throughout my career.’

The Reds have been keen to add to their youth ranks having seen 10 players leave the academy this summer. 

Six players were released and a further four sold by the club, including Leighton Clarkson who has joined Aberdeen, Layton Stewart moving to Preston, Elijah Gift to Athletic Club and Brentford’s deal for Kerron Samuels. 

Owen is expected to start life in Liverpool’s U16’s set-up, managed by under-21s assistant coach Jonathan Robinson, but have huge belief in the potential of the teenager. 

The youngster has already received endorsement from one former Premier League star, having crossed paths with ex-Man City midfielder Yaya Toure last season. 

Wes Hughes, his coach at Wolves, spoke in October of how the Premier League winner made a beeline for Owen when they played Tottenham.

‘We recently played at Tottenham and he had a nice pat on the back from an ex-player in Yaya Toure,’ Hughes explained.

‘He personally went up to Harvey and said that he had a lot of potential and would be a really good player in the future, so I think he’ll be really proud of that.’

Liverpool are still keen to bolster their first team options ahead of the new season, especially with Jordan Henderson set to move to Saudi side Al-Ettifaq.

They’ve had an opening bid of £37m turned down by Southampton for midfielder Romeo Lavia, with the Saints demanding a fee of £50m for the teenager.
